Jet2 Wifi: Can You Get Online on Board?

A Jet2 aircraft taxiing on the runway: Jet2 wifi does not exist on any aircraft in the fleet

Published 19 August 2026 | Updated 4 October 2026 by Kate Acaster

Jet2 doesn’t sell inflight internet. You can’t browse, email or message from a Jet2 plane on any route or fare. The one exception is Jet2onboard, a free Wi-Fi hub Jet2 has been trialling on a small number of aircraft flying in and out of Manchester. It shows you the café and shop ranges, tracks the flight and has a few games, but it won’t get you online.

Does Jet2 have wifi?

Not the kind most people mean. Jet2 describes Jet2onboard as a closed-loop Wi-Fi network that doesn’t give you general internet access for browsing, emails or social media. It’s free, and it only works on board the trial aircraft. You can browse the Jet2café and Jet2shop ranges and add items to a wishlist, but you still order and pay through the cabin crew when the trolley comes round. On any other Jet2 aircraft there’s no Wi-Fi network to join at all.

What that means for your flight

Once the doors close, you’re offline. Load anything you want to watch or read before you get on board.

Plan for a flight with no internet, whichever aircraft you get.

  • No internet access, free or paid, on any Jet2 route or fare.
  • On a Jet2onboard trial aircraft, the crew announce it and connection instructions sit in the seatback pocket.
  • To connect, switch on flight mode, turn Wi-Fi back on and join the Jet2onboard network.
  • Download films, boarding passes and offline maps before you leave home or while you still have airport wifi.

How Jet2 compares with other UK airlines

Inflight internet in Britain mostly lives on the long-haul, full-service side. Our guides to British Airways wifi and Virgin Atlantic wifi cover those two in detail.

No internet. Free closed-loop Jet2onboard hub on some Manchester trial aircraft
Ryanair
No wifi
TUI Airways
Paid film and TV streaming to your own device on some Boeing 737s, seatback screens on the 787 Dreamliner
British Airways
Wifi on most aircraft. Free messaging for British Airways Club members, browse and stream from £4.99
Virgin Atlantic
Free Starlink wifi for Flying Club members, full fleet coverage expected in 2027

“People ask about Jet2 wifi hoping for a yes. If you mean the internet, it’s still a no. Jet2onboard, a free hub for menus, flight tracking and games, has only been a summer trial on a few Manchester aircraft, and it won’t load an email or a message. Download your films before you leave the house, because there’s no catching up once the doors close.”

How to prepare for a Jet2 flight without wifi

A Jet2holidays aircraft climbing against a clear blue sky shortly after take-off
No signal from this point until you land. Everything you need for the flight has to already be on your device.

A few minutes before you board covers most of it.

  • Download films, shows, podcasts and music while you’ve still got a signal or airport wifi.
  • Save offline maps and any documents you’ll want to check mid-flight.
  • Save your boarding pass to Apple Wallet, Google Wallet or Samsung Wallet, or print it.
  • Pack a book, headphones and a charged battery pack.
  • Check your network’s EU roaming charges or add a travel eSIM before you fly, since you won’t have a signal to check them once you’re in the air.

Does the Jet2 app work without wifi?

Partly. Jet2’s own app page says boarding passes, booking details, pre-downloaded travel documents, Jet2café, Jet2shop and destination guides all work offline. Real-time flight updates and payments need an internet connection, which you won’t have once you’re in the air. Open the app and let everything load before you board, not after.

Jet2 wifi: FAQs

Does Jet2 have wifi?

Not for the internet. You can’t browse, email or use social media on any Jet2 flight. A small number of aircraft flying in and out of Manchester have been trialling Jet2onboard, a free closed-loop Wi-Fi hub with menus, flight tracking and games, but it doesn’t connect to the wider internet.

What is Jet2onboard?

It’s Jet2’s free in-flight digital hub. On a trial aircraft you connect your phone or tablet to the Jet2onboard network and can browse the Jet2café and Jet2shop ranges, build a wishlist to show the cabin crew, read destination ideas, track the flight and play games. You can’t order or pay through it.

Is Jet2onboard available on every Jet2 flight?

No. Jet2’s website describes it as a summer trial on a small number of aircraft flying in and out of Manchester Airport, with no end date given, and doesn’t say whether it will continue. If your aircraft has it, the cabin crew will announce it and you’ll find connection instructions in the seatback pocket.

Which UK airlines have free wifi?

Virgin Atlantic offers free Starlink wifi to Flying Club members and expects full fleet coverage in 2027. British Airways gives free messaging to British Airways Club members, with browsing and streaming from £4.99 for everyone else. Ryanair says it doesn’t offer wifi on its flights.

Can you use your phone on a Jet2 flight?

Yes, in flight mode. You can use downloaded films, music and games, and on a Jet2onboard trial aircraft you switch Wi-Fi back on to reach the hub. You won’t get a mobile signal or internet access.

Does the Jet2 app work without an internet connection?

Partly. Jet2 says boarding passes, booking details, pre-downloaded travel documents, Jet2café, Jet2shop and destination guides work offline. Real-time flight updates and payments need a live connection, so open the app and let it load before you board.

Will Jet2 add internet wifi?

Jet2 hasn’t announced plans to put internet access on its aircraft. Its Jet2onboard page says ordering and paying through the hub may come later, depending on customer feedback, but that’s about the closed-loop hub, not internet access.
