TUI baggage allowance 2026: hand luggage and hold luggage

colorful suitcases displayed on checkered floor

TUI’s hand luggage allowance is 10kg in a bag up to 55 x 40 x 20 cm, plus one personal item up to 40 x 30 x 20 cm that goes under the seat. Hold luggage is included on most package holidays: 20kg for standard TUI Airways bookings, rising to 25kg if you’ve booked TUI BLUE, Sensatori, a Holiday Village or a River Cruise package. Flight-only tickets don’t include hold luggage.

TUI’s hand luggage rules are the same across all bookings. The hold luggage picture is more complicated, because what you get depends on which holiday type you’ve booked and which airline operates your flights. Here’s a complete breakdown.

TUI hand luggage allowance

TUI gives every adult and child aged 2+ one carry-on bag up to 55 x 40 x 20 cm and 10kg, plus one personal item up to 40 x 30 x 20 cm. Both are included free. There are no tiers or fare classes to navigate on the hand luggage side.

The personal item, which must go under the seat in front, has no published weight limit — but a handbag, laptop bag or small backpack is what’s intended. A few additional rules to know:

  • Infants under 2 get no hand luggage allowance.
  • You must be able to lift your hand luggage into the overhead locker yourself.
  • Trunki cases are allowed in the cabin (max 10kg), but count as the hand luggage allowance for one accompanying adult, not as an extra bag.

TUI’s hand luggage policy is noticeably more generous than several UK competitors. Ryanair and Wizz Air both charge extra for a cabin bag in the overhead locker — with TUI, the full 10kg bag is included at no cost. You can compare all the major UK carriers on our hand luggage size guide for UK airlines.

TUI hold luggage allowance by booking type

Most TUI package holidays include hold luggage in the price. The standard allowance is 20kg per person, but several holiday types include 25kg. Which one you get depends entirely on the booking category.

The main caveat applies to all package bookings: the 20kg and 25kg allowances are for when you fly with TUI Airways on both legs. If your booking uses a different airline on either leg, check your confirmation email or Manage My Booking on tui.co.uk for your actual allowance.

No individual bag can weigh more than 25kg, regardless of your total allowance. If you’re travelling as a family with a pooled 80kg, you still can’t check a single 30kg case.

TUI excess baggage charges

Going over your allowance is expensive, particularly if you arrive at the airport without having pre-purchased a luggage allowance. TUI’s rates below are for 2026; charges can vary slightly by season.

If you need to add hold luggage to a flight-only booking, do it online before you travel. The airport rate for a 15kg bag on a short-haul flight is £55 — the online price via Flight Extras is considerably lower. There’s no reason to pay the airport rate if you know you need hold luggage.

Can you pool your TUI luggage allowance?

Yes. On TUI Airways flights, passengers on the same booking can pool their hold luggage allowances. If one person is packing lightly and another is close to their limit, you can redistribute the weight between bags — useful for families where one suitcase is doing most of the work.

The restriction is that no individual bag can exceed 25kg at check-in, regardless of the combined pool. A family of four on standard packages has an 80kg pool, but none of their individual cases can weigh more than 25kg each.

Adding hold luggage to a TUI flight-only booking

TUI flight-only tickets don’t include hold luggage by default. You can add it when you book, or afterwards through the Flight Extras section in Manage My Booking at tui.co.uk. Adding it online is significantly cheaper than paying at the airport.

On a flight-only booking, you can add one bag per person up to a maximum of 15kg. If you need more than 15kg, the only option is to pay the airport rate, which starts at £55 on short-haul routes.

Worth comparing: Jet2 includes a 22kg hold bag for all passengers as standard — no extras to add. If hold luggage matters and you’re flexible on airline, it’s worth factoring in.

TUI Premium baggage allowance

Premium is available on long-haul TUI Airways flights only — it’s not an option on short or mid-haul routes. Upgrading gives you:

  • 25kg of hold luggage, regardless of which holiday type you’ve booked
  • 10kg of hand luggage
  • Priority bag drop at the airport
  • Fast-track security and UK airport lounge access
  • 38-inch seat pitch with ergonomic seats, footrests and adjustable headrests on the aircraft

The luggage upgrade is most useful if you’re on a standard package and want the extra 5kg. If you’ve already booked TUI BLUE or Sensatori, you’ll have 25kg included anyway — the Premium price needs to make sense on the other benefits.

Frequently asked questions

What is TUI’s hand luggage size?

TUI’s hand luggage size limit is 55 x 40 x 20 cm with a maximum weight of 10kg. You can also bring one personal item (handbag, small backpack or laptop bag) up to 40 x 30 x 20 cm under the seat in front. Both are free for all passengers aged 2 and over.

Does TUI include hold luggage in the price?

Most TUI package holidays include hold luggage. Standard TUI Airways packages include 20kg per person. TUI BLUE, Sensatori, Holiday Village and TUI River Cruise bookings include 25kg. Marella Cruises and ski holidays include 20kg. Flight-only bookings don’t include hold luggage.

How much does TUI charge for extra luggage?

TUI charges £14 per additional kg on short and mid-haul flights (under 7 hours) and £18/kg on long-haul, if you already have a hold luggage allowance. If you have no hold luggage allowance and pay at the airport, the starting charge is £55 for a 15kg bag on short/mid-haul or £75 on long-haul, plus the per-kg rate above that.

Can you take 2 bags in the hold with TUI?

Yes. TUI allows more than one bag in the hold, as long as the combined weight stays within your allowance and no single bag exceeds 25kg. On flight-only bookings, you can only add one bag per person via Flight Extras.

What is TUI’s maximum single bag weight?

No single bag can exceed 25kg, regardless of your total allowance or booking type. If your family has an 80kg pooled allowance, you still can’t check a single 30kg case — each bag must weigh 25kg or under.

What is the TUI Premium luggage allowance?

TUI Premium passengers on long-haul TUI Airways flights get 25kg of hold luggage and 10kg of hand luggage. Premium also includes priority bag drop, fast-track security and UK airport lounge access. It is only available on long-haul routes.
