Where’s Hot in July from the UK: Best Holiday Destinations

Blue-domed church in Santorini, Greece, overlooking the caldera and Aegean Sea in July

July is the hottest month of the year across most of southern Europe. Sea temperatures along the Aegean and Balearic coasts reach 24–26°C, there is almost no rain from Portugal to Turkey, and the days stretch to around 9pm. It is also the busiest and most expensive month to fly from the UK, with popular routes from Heathrow, Gatwick, and Manchester often selling out by spring.

The four destinations below cover the main reasons UK travellers head south in July: Greek island scenery and romance, Balearic beach life, a quieter Ionian escape, and good-value Turkish coast. All four are direct flights from most major UK airports. See our full where’s hot guide to find the best picks for every month of the year, or check where’s hot in June if your dates are more flexible.

Santorini

Santorini is at its fullest and most expensive in July. The caldera views from Oia and Fira are as dramatic as the photographs suggest, the sunsets draw crowds to the clifftops by 8pm, and the volcanic beaches, both black and red, are unlike anything else in the Aegean. Sea temperatures reach around 24°C. Prices are high and the better caldera hotels sell out months in advance. For the setting alone, few Mediterranean destinations in July match it.

Direct flights from the UK go to Santorini Airport (JTR) from London, Manchester, and Bristol in around three hours and forty-five minutes. Many visitors stay five to seven nights to allow time for ferry day trips to Thirassia or the ancient site at Akrotiri. Book as early as possible: good caldera hotel rates regularly exceed £300 per night in July. Browse Greece holiday deals on Flight Tribe.

Ibiza

Ibiza in July means a choice between two very different islands on the same piece of land. The south and west, around Playa d’en Bossa and San Antonio, are busy with beach clubs and the nightlife that defines the island’s reputation. The north, around Sant Joan, Portinatx, and Cala d’en Serra, is a different world: forested hills, near-empty coves, and no queue for sun loungers. Families tend to stay around Santa Eularia, which has good beaches without the weekend noise.

Ibiza Airport (IBZ) is around two and a half hours from most UK airports. easyJet, Jet2, and Ryanair all run summer routes from the UK. Package holidays often work out better value than booking separately in peak July. Browse Ibiza and Spain holiday deals on Flight Tribe.

Corfu

Corfu is the greenest of the main Greek islands. Olive groves and cypress trees cover the hills above beaches that range from busy resort strips around Kavos in the south to near-empty coves in the north, where the road narrows to a single track. Paleokastritsa, on the west coast, is worth the drive: sea caves, deep blue water, and a monastery on the headland. July temperatures sit around 29°C with a reliable sea breeze. A more measured alternative to Santorini for those who prefer not to pay the premium.

Corfu Airport (CFU) is a direct three-hour-and-fifteen-minute flight from most UK airports. Package holidays are well served by Jet2, TUI, and easyJet Holidays, keeping prices competitive. A seven-night half-board stay in a mid-range resort costs from around £800 per person in July including flights. See the latest Greece deals on Flight Tribe.

Bodrum, Turkey

Bodrum combines Ottoman history, clear Aegean water, and prices that are noticeably lower than comparable Greek destinations. The old town, built around a 15th-century castle that juts into the bay, is worth a morning on foot. The coast around Bitez, Yalikavak, and Gümüşluk has quieter bays and good fish restaurants. Sea temperatures in July reach 26°C. UK visitors benefit from a favourable Lira exchange rate, which has held consistently over the past two years and makes a week in Bodrum meaningfully cheaper than Santorini or Mykonos.

Bodrum-Milas Airport (BJV) is around four and a half hours from London. Jet2, TUI, and easyJet Holidays all operate routes from the UK. Antalya, further east along the Turkish coast, offers lower prices still and a wider range of all-inclusive resorts for families. Browse Turkey holiday deals on Flight Tribe.
