easyJet charges from around £4 per person per flight to choose your seat. If you don’t pay, the airline allocates a free seat at check-in. You have no say in which one you get, but it won’t cost anything.
For most solo travellers, that’s perfectly fine. For families wanting to sit together, or passengers who need more legroom, the paid options are worth knowing about. This guide covers the seat types, the prices, and which seats are actually worth paying for on easyJet holidays.
| SEAT TYPE | FROM PRICE | FREE FOR |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | ~£4 per person | easyJet Plus / Inclusive Plus fare |
| Up Front (rows 2–6) | ~£15 per person | easyJet Plus / Inclusive Plus fare |
| Extra Legroom | ~£25 per person | easyJet Plus (discounted for Inclusive Plus) |
Prices are approximate and vary by route, demand, and how far in advance you book. They apply per person, per flight — so a return trip doubles the cost.
Types of seat on easyJet
Three seat categories are available when you book.
Standard seats are any seat in the main cabin, excluding the Up Front and Extra Legroom rows. You pick window, middle or aisle. Prices typically run from around £4 to £12, depending on the route and how early you book. This is the cheapest way to guarantee a specific seat.
Up Front seats are rows 2 to 6, or rows 2 to 5 on some aircraft. They cost from around £15. The practical benefit is faster boarding and deplaning. You also get a small under-seat bag allowance. The seat itself is the same size as Standard, so you’re paying for position, not comfort.
Extra Legroom seats start from around £25 and include all the Up Front benefits. These are the emergency exit rows, usually over or near the wings. easyJet’s standard seat pitch is 28 inches (71cm), so the extra space makes a noticeable difference on flights over two hours. You must be 16 or older, able-bodied, and willing to assist with the emergency exit if instructed by crew.

Best seats on easyJet
easyJet’s fleet is the Airbus A319, A320 and A321, all configured 3-3 with three seats either side of a central aisle. The best seat depends on what matters to you.
For speed off the plane, rows 2 and 3 are the best-value Up Front option, typically from around £15. Row 1 can restrict underseat bag space on some aircraft. For legroom, the exit rows are worth considering on longer flights. Check the seat map at booking, as row numbers vary by aircraft type. For value, a Standard seat around rows 14 to 20 costs the same as any other Standard seat.

Who gets seats free on easyJet?
easyJet Plus members get Standard and Up Front seats at no extra charge on every booking. Extra Legroom seats are not included free, but Inclusive Plus fare customers receive a discount on them.
On bookings where no seat is selected, easyJet will attempt to seat passengers from the same booking near each other at check-in. This is not guaranteed on busy flights. For families with young children, paying for Standard seats is the only way to confirm you’ll sit together. Infants under two must sit with an adult, either on the adult’s lap or in an adjacent seat.
Can you change your easyJet seat?
Yes. You can add or change a seat up to two hours before departure, as long as you haven’t checked in yet. Log in to Manage Bookings on the easyJet website or the app. If you’ve already checked in and want to move, you’ll need to contact easyJet Customer Service to make the change.
You must select seats for all passengers on a booking at the same time. easyJet won’t allow partial seat selection — it’s all or nothing.

Do you have to pay for a seat on easyJet?

What is an Up Front seat on easyJet?
Up Front seats are in rows 2 to 6 at the front of the main cabin. They let you board and leave the plane faster, and include a small under-seat bag allowance. The seat dimensions are the same as Standard.
Does easyJet have Extra Legroom seats?
Yes. Extra Legroom seats are at the emergency exit rows and start from around £25. They include all the Up Front benefits. You need to be 16 or older and physically able to assist with the emergency exit. Exact row numbers vary by aircraft.
Does easyJet seat families together for free?
easyJet tries to seat passengers from the same booking near each other when allocating seats at check-in, but it’s not guaranteed. If sitting together is important, the safest option is to pay for Standard seats. See our guide to easyJet baggage allowance for other cost-saving tips on easyJet flights.
Is easyJet seat selection free with easyJet Plus?

If you fly easyJet regularly, the annual membership could pay for itself quickly on seat savings alone.
