When Does easyJet Check-In Open? The 2026 Guide

easyJet Airbus A320 ready for takeoff at Hamburg Airport on a clear sunny day

easyJet check-in opens 30 days before departure. You can check in online at easyjet.com or through the easyJet app at any point in that window. The online check-in deadline is 2 hours before your flight.

Unlike most airlines, easyJet does not operate standard check-in desks at the airport. Online is the only option. If online check-in fails, ground staff may be able to help as a last resort, but only before the bag drop deadline. This guide covers every check-in method, the deadlines, and what to do if you miss one. For a full overview of flying with easyJet, see the easyJet UK guide.

The easyJet check-in window

easyJet allows passengers to check in any time from 30 days before departure up to 2 hours before the flight. Checking in early gives you a better chance of choosing your seat before options fill up. See our guide to easyJet seat selection for how the seat categories and pricing work.

Your passport must be valid for the duration of your trip. For flights to European countries, easyJet recommends at least 3 months’ validity beyond your departure date. For domestic UK flights, passengers aged 16 and over must show valid photo ID.

If you have a hold bag, checking in early also gives you more time to sort the bag drop without rushing. Queues at bag drop can be long at peak times, particularly at Gatwick and Manchester during summer.

How to check in online with easyJet

Go to easyjet.com and select ‘Check In’, or open the easyJet app. You’ll need your booking reference number and the lead passenger’s surname. If you have an easyJet account, you can log in directly.

easyJet asks standard questions about hazardous materials before confirming your travel details. At this point you can also add checked bags, if you forgot to include them at booking. See our guide to the easyJet baggage allowance for what’s included free and what carries an extra charge.

Your boarding pass appears at the end of the check-in process. Save it in the app or print it. Do not save it as a separate PDF. Some airport scanners cannot read PDF boarding passes and you could be turned away at the gate.

Once check-in is complete, easyJet sends a confirmation to your registered email address. Your boarding pass is valid for the entire journey, including any stops.

If you’re travelling in a group, you can check in all passengers in the same booking in a single session. Seat selection is optional at this stage, but choosing seats for the group now avoids being split up on busy flights.

App vs website: which should you use?

The check-in process is the same whether you use the easyJet app or the website. The practical difference is where the boarding pass lives afterwards.

On the website, you download or print the boarding pass after check-in. On the app, it’s stored on your phone and updates automatically with gate changes and flight information. You can also add it to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet through the app, which keeps it accessible even without mobile signal at the airport.

For passengers who fly easyJet regularly, the app is the more practical option. The boarding pass is ready in one tap at the gate, and you don’t need to locate a PDF or carry a printout. The mobile boarding pass works anywhere a paper one does. Note that easyJet does not support smartwatch boarding passes on any route.

Crowded airport check-in area with passengers queuing and flight information screens visible

At the airport, you’ll be directed to either the bag drop counters (if you have checked luggage) or straight through to security (if you’re travelling with hand luggage only). Having your boarding pass ready on your phone before you reach the front of the queue saves time.

Bag drop deadlines and Twilight Bag Drop

If you have checked luggage, you’ll need to drop it at the airport even after completing online check-in. Bag drop deadlines vary by route.

For most easyJet flights, bag drop closes 40 minutes before scheduled departure. Exceptions include flights from Gatwick, Lisbon, and North African airports (Egypt, Israel, Morocco, Jordan, and Tunisia), where the deadline is 60 minutes before departure. Bag drop typically opens 2 to 3 hours before the flight.

easyJet also offers a Twilight Bag Drop service at selected UK airports. This lets you drop your luggage the evening before an early morning flight, removing the need to queue at bag drop on the morning of travel. It’s available at Gatwick (for flights departing before 08:00), Bristol, Manchester, and several other UK airports. The bag drop window runs from early evening until approximately 21:00 the night before. Check easyJet’s website for the specific hours at your departure airport.

The departure gate closes 30 minutes before the scheduled flight. Even if you’ve checked in online, arriving at the gate after it closes means missing the flight.

What happens if you miss easyJet check-in?

If you miss the 2-hour online check-in deadline, go to the bag drop counters at the airport. Ground staff may be able to check you in if you arrive before the bag drop closes (40 to 60 minutes before departure, depending on the airport). This is not guaranteed. easyJet’s stated policy is online-only, but staff will generally help when online check-in has failed.

If you miss the bag drop deadline entirely, you will not be able to board. easyJet does not offer a Missed Flight Transfer service. You’ll need to purchase a new ticket, and the cost falls on you unless your travel insurance includes missed departure cover. Reviewing your easyJet hand luggage rules and the easyJet cabin bag size guide before travel day reduces the chance of delays at the gate or bag drop that could cost you time.
