Expedia UK hotel search, 7 to 14 June 2027, two adults, one room, three-star class, guest rating 8.0 or higher, at least 50 reviews, taxes and fees as Expedia shows them, read on 23 October 2026. Prices will move. Ranked on the average of the five, and the nightly figure is that average divided by seven, per room. Krakow and Tirana averaged within £2 of each other and Tokyo and Budapest within £4. Averages within £5 share a place. We counted properties Expedia lists as hotels, which include guesthouses, riads and apartment hotels. We kept to those within five miles of the city centre. For Athens, Bangkok and Tokyo, which are large metropolitan areas, we kept to hotels within three miles of Syntagma Square, the Grand Palace and Shinjuku Station. We left out private-host homes and any property with "hostel" in its name. Only five properties in Split met the test, so its range is all five. In Antalya the fifth hotel cost £990, more than three times the cheapest. Star ratings vary by country.

"Bangkok wins on room price by a distance, but the room isn't the bill that decides it. Two one-stop returns at our Thailand guide's £350 to £550 each cost several times the room. If that puts you off, Marrakech and Krakow are under four hours away, and that's where I'd start."

Cheap rooms and dear flights are different things

For Bangkok, the room is the smaller cost. These figures come from our own guides, so the fares are typical ones, not a check on the week we priced.

  • Bangkok and Tokyo are 11 to 12 hours and 14 to 15 hours from London on a direct flight. Our Thailand guide and Tokyo guide give the times.
  • Our Thailand guide puts a one-stop return at roughly £350 to £550 a person. For two, that is £700 to £1,100, against £62 to £125 for the five cheapest rooms for the week.
  • Krakow and Budapest are about two and a quarter hours from London, and Marrakech about three and a half.

Flights change the order. Bangkok is first on rooms and among the furthest to fly to. Marrakech and Krakow cost more to sleep in, and take under four hours to reach.

What June does to the ranking

We priced one June week, so the order is for that week only. Our Morocco guide rates June to August as very hot, at 35 to 42°C inland, and as the highest-priced season. Our Krakow guide calls June to August the busiest stretch of the year and the dearest. Both guides rate spring and autumn lower on price, so Marrakech and Krakow should cost less outside June. Bangkok's ranking comes from a week outside the best months for Thailand, which our Thailand guide puts at November to February.

Krakow is one of the easiest cheap breaks to reach. Our Krakow guide lists these direct flights, each taking about two hours 15 to 20 minutes.

  • Ryanair from Stansted and Luton.
  • easyJet from Gatwick.
  • Jet2 from Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds-Bradford, Newcastle and more.

The airport is 11km west of the centre, and the train to Krakow Główny takes about 20 minutes. The Main Market Square is the largest medieval square in Europe, and walking it is free. Going inside St Mary's Basilica costs around 20 złoty, roughly £4.

Five of the ten are outside the EU. Before you pay, read the Foreign Office pages for Morocco, Thailand, Japan, Turkey and Albania. Entry rules and travel advice change.

Price flights before Bangkok or Tokyo
