What does it actually cost to go?

Most travel guides describe a destination as affordable without saying affordable compared to what, or from where. Ours are different. Every Flight Tribe destination guide is written for UK travellers, with prices in pounds, flights priced from UK airports, and a realistic daily budget that covers accommodation, food, local transport, and the things actually worth doing when you get there.

We cover European city breaks, beach holidays, long-haul trips, and UK destinations. Whether you are planning your first time in Barcelona, comparing the cost of a week in Tenerife versus Cape Verde, or wondering whether Chicago is doable on a normal budget, our guides give you the numbers before you commit.

What every guide covers

Each guide is structured around the decisions you actually need to make before booking a trip.

  • What it costs from the UK. GBP prices for flights from UK airports, typical accommodation ranges, and a realistic daily budget covering food, transport, and entry fees.
  • The best time to visit. When prices are lowest, when crowds thin, and how UK school holidays affect costs for families and solo travellers alike.
  • Where to stay without overpaying. Areas worth booking, honest price ranges for different budgets, and the parts of town to avoid if value matters.
  • How to get around cheaply. Local transport options, city passes that are worth buying, and common tourist pricing traps to sidestep.
  • What is actually worth spending on. The experiences, food, and activities that justify the cost, and the ones that do not.

City break or beach holiday?

For culture and history without a long flight, European cities offer the best value from the UK. Barcelona, Lisbon, and Prague all have direct flights under three hours, with daily budgets well under £70 for a couple travelling sensibly.

For sun and beaches, Tenerife and Cape Verde are the most consistent options from the UK. Both have direct flights from multiple airports and warm weather year-round, with all-inclusive packages that help control costs even in school holidays.

For long-haul, we cover North America, West Africa, and the Indian Ocean. Chicago and Miami are both reachable direct from the UK, with Miami also a strong base for the Caribbean. The Gambia is one of the most affordable winter-sun options available from UK airports. For medium-haul with guaranteed sunshine, Hurghada in Egypt and Morocco both offer direct flights and strong value.

Frequently asked questions about our travel guides

Are the guides written for UK travellers?

Yes. All prices are in pounds sterling, flights are referenced from UK airports, and practical advice on visas, travel insurance, and ATOL protection is written for British visitors.

How current are the prices in your guides?

Each guide shows the date it was last reviewed. We use seasonal price ranges rather than fixed figures, so the information stays useful even as specific prices shift throughout the year.

Do the guides cover school holiday travel?

Yes. Each guide flags how prices change during UK school holidays and half-term, so you can plan whether you are travelling with children or trying to avoid peak costs.

Which European city break is best value from the UK?

Lisbon, Prague, Berlin, and Krakow consistently offer strong value, with daily budgets of £50 to £100 covering accommodation, food, and transport. Our individual guides break down current costs for each city.

Do you cover long-haul destinations?

Yes, including Chicago, Miami, Cape Verde, and Iceland. Each guide uses GBP pricing and UK departure airports, with a realistic budget for what a trip actually costs end to end.

Can I find flight deals for the destinations you cover?

Yes. Each guide links to the relevant Flight Tribe deals section, where we publish verified flight, hotel, and holiday offers as they appear. The guide tells you when to go; the deals page helps you book.

Are the prices in your guides still accurate?

We update guides when costs change materially. Every guide shows the last-updated date so you know how recent the research is.

Do you cover beach holidays as well as city breaks?

Yes. Our guides cover European cities, beach destinations like Tenerife and Cape Verde, long-haul destinations like Chicago, and UK breaks like Liverpool.
